What is the right length for my Iaito?

Both a centreboard that is too short and one that is too long will hinder or prevent correct movements. We therefore recommend the following sword lengths as the maximum length.

Experience has shown that a size smaller is optimal for most people, as the table is designed for more advanced exercisers, for whom the pulling movement is slightly different than for less advanced users.

There is an extra column in the table for women. As the belt is traditionally worn higher on women than on men, it makes sense to use a different sword length.

The recommended measurement corresponds to the Japanese way of measuring. This means nagasa from munemachi (edge of the blade on the habaki) to the end of the tip.

In addition to our recommendation, there are also differences in the individual styles. That's why we always recommend asking your local sensei. As you can see, the optimum length can be a very individual issue. However, the table should help with orientation.

Das Schwert ist in schwarz gehalten mit dem goldenen Akzent durch die Menuki. Die Wirkung ist trotzdem schlicht. Im Vordergrund steht die Musashi – Tsuba. Aufwendig ist aber das Hamon, was dem Schwert eine zugleich eine edle Wirkung verleiht.

Das Gewicht ist moderat. Es liegt bei 2,45 Shaku bei ca. 800g.
