Robust plastic tuba with Tsubadome from Japan.

Why are there Bokken Tsuba?

Tsuba is the name for the blade of the samurai sword. This protects the hand.

In Japanese martial arts, a wooden sword called a kenjutsu is used for kenjutsu training. Bokken or Bokuto used.

Depending on the martial art practised, there are different versions of this sword. Some styles use a blade that imitates the blade of a real sword.

What types of bokken tsuba are available?

The version offered here is simple and inexpensive. It is the standard in most martial arts schools. The plastic disc is held in place with the help of a rubber (Tsubadome). With dimensions of approx. 7.8 cm x 7.2 cm, they correspond to a normal stabbing blade and the thickness of 6 mm makes them robust.

Alternatively, there are bokken tsuba made of leather. You can find these in our category Bokken accessories. Leather has the advantage that it is slightly elastic. This means that the blade can be attached to the bokken without a tsubadome. Especially in combination with Bokken saya the use of leather tsuba makes sense.

Leather tsuba for bokken are available in relatively simple designs, but there are also versions that are additionally stitched and even specimens that are covered with seed or have patterns on the leather surface.

For which swords do our tsuba fit?

There are relatively standardised production specifications for bokken in Japan. Our tsuba definitely fit the bokken from our range.

Other manufacturers may require slight adjustments to be made to the blade. However, this can usually be done in a few simple steps with the help of a file.
