What is the right length for my Iaito?
Both a centreboard that is too short and one that is too long will hinder or prevent correct movements. We therefore recommend the following sword lengths as the maximum length.
Experience has shown that a size smaller is optimal for most people, as the table is designed for more advanced exercisers, for whom the pulling movement is slightly different than for less advanced users.
There is an extra column in the table for women. As the belt is traditionally worn higher on women than on men, it makes sense to use a different sword length.
The recommended measurement corresponds to the Japanese way of measuring. This means nagasa from munemachi (edge of the blade on the habaki) to the end of the tip.
In addition to our recommendation, there are also differences in the individual styles. That's why we always recommend asking your local sensei. As you can see, the optimum length can be a very individual issue. However, the table should help with orientation.

What do the Hamon names mean?
Brief explanation of the hamon variations you can choose from. Not all hamon are available for all swords. You can see the selection for the sword on the respective product page.
Suguha
A straight line. The most common pattern because the straight line goes well with the straightness of the samurai.
Notaries
Large waves. Another popular motif because the large waves create a very calm pattern.
Midare
A pattern with uneven, short waves and points.
Gunome
Relatively even short waves.
Doran
A more or less uneven pattern of larger waves and indentations.
Doran double line
The Doran pattern in a special version with two lines combined with each other. It looks much more sophisticated than the simple version. However, the realisation is also comparatively complex.
