The relatively short Iaido training sword Shonen-Yo from our range offers a very light weight of only approx. 650 grams with a maximum length of 2.2 Shaku.
These properties make the sword ideal for small Iaidoka. However, it is also often used as a replacement sword by people who have injuries to muscles and joints and are currently unable to train under full load.
The blade is made of a zinc-aluminium alloy, as is usual with swords for Iai from Japan. With a hollow groove (bohi) for a clear sound (tachikaze) during sword techniques. A straight hamon line is worked into the blade of the Iaito.
Nagasa lengths of 2.0, 2.05, 2.1, 2.15 and 2.2 Shaku are available for selecting the blade length.
The handle (tsuka) is kept short at approx. 22 cm to match the blade length and is therefore also very light.
The handle winding (tsukamaki) is tightly wrapped with a band (ito or tsukaito) of black cotton.
The blade (tsuba) depicts a chrysanthemum, a very classic motif. The brass fuchi and kashira have a matching antique finish due to oxidisation.
The sword sheath (saya) is made of black lacquered wood. It is robust and durable. Like the other components of the Shonen-Yo Iaito, the saya is also lightweight. The lacquer finish is Kuroro (high-gloss black).
