Bokken saya in Japanese quality suitable for the wooden training swords in our programme. This robust version of a training saya for bokken (also known as bokuto) is a reliable companion for regular training.<\/p>\n
The sword scabbard is stable enough to perform all the movements that are practised in the course of training a Japanese sword art. Thanks to the included strap on the sword sheath, it can even be strapped on and the training then comes even closer to training with a real sword.<\/p>\n
Training with bokken and plastic saya primarily serves to train movements in connection with drawing the sword.<\/p>\n
Some martial arts schools keep a set of bokken and saya on hand as an inexpensive emergency kit for practitioners who have forgotten their iaito.<\/p>\n
Plastic saya are available from several countries in very different price and quality levels. In our experience, the ones from Japan are the most suitable for training Japanese sword arts due to their focussed design.<\/p>\n
They have the right weight, the right flexibility and, as a Japanese product, are naturally best suited to training a corresponding martial art.<\/p>\n
If you train with saya and tsuba on the bokken, you should preferably use a leather blade (tsuba). These versions hold on to the bokken without an additional holding rubber (tsubadome). As a result, the accuracy of fit with the sword sheath is much better and closer to the real sword than when training with a tsuba dome.<\/p>\n
