He is the son and disciple of Kimura Kaneshige, a renowned swordsmith. He forges in the town of Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu Island.

The Akamatsu Taro family has been making swords in Yatsushiro for ten generations and were the court blacksmiths of the Sagara daimyo. The family is known, among other things, for producing their own tamahagane from local river sand for blade production in order to have full control over the material and forge it according to their own specialities.

Kanehiro is particularly well known for its reproductions of historical blades. This way of working is highly regarded, as it involves discussing, understanding and applying old blacksmithing techniques and is generally a tribute to the centuries-old blacksmithing tradition in Japan.

Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro has received many awards for his exceptional work and is a respected blacksmith.

Information about the blade:
Nagasa (blade length): 74.4 cm
Sori (blade curvature): 2.0 cm
Motohaba: 33.5 mm
Motokasane: 7.0 mm
Sakihaba: 23.6 mm
Sakikasane: 4.5 mm
Weight without saya: 954 g

The blade was forged in 2019.

The blade is made in the style of the Bizen Fukuoka Ichimonji school as a tribute to the blacksmith's art of the Kamakura period. It is broad at the base and still broad towards the tip, giving it a very powerful shape. It is also very sharp and can cut well, for which Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro blades are generally known.

Blade and mount have an excellent appearance. We are pleased to be able to offer this beautiful Nihonto with dimensions for European standards at a good price.

This sword is currently still in Japan.
