Japanese products, such as this beautiful sword for Iaido, are usually more expensive than products from other manufacturing countries, but always stand for high quality and Japanese care.
We would like to expressly point out that our production partner assembles the same high-quality blades for us as for the more expensive Iaito!
The blade
For the length of the blade (Nagasa) you have the choice of 2.20 - 2.45 Shaku. In our size chart, which you can find under the "Add to basket" button, you can see which size we recommend for our Iaito.
As usual in Japan, a zinc-aluminium alloy is used for the blades.
The weight of this training sword without scabbard is only approx. 780g at 2.45 Shaku.
The blade has an inlaid suguha hamon. This straight design is also the most commonly used pattern on historical swords.
The handle (Tsuka)
The handle winding (Tsukamaki) is made of black cotton tape (Ito). Naturally, real seed is used for the inlays on the handle. The handle is 25.8cm long.
The blade (tsuba) shows an elaborate bamboo motif in sukashi design. Sukashi is a technique that uses perforations. Sukashi is one of the oldest forms of design for Japanese stabbing blades and can be found on many high-quality tsuba.
Bamboo is widespread in Asia and is generally known for its strength and resilience. It is also a popular motif in other Japanese arts, such as painting.
The sword scabbard (saya)
The black scabbard (saya) is made of wood and is light yet robust. The lacquer finish is Kuroishime (matt black). If you prefer Kuroro (black high gloss), you are welcome to contact us.
And should the saya wear out or be damaged during training, we will not let you down with your sword. We guarantee the availability of replacement material for 10 years from the date of purchase.
Compared to Iaito on the international market, this model is similar in design and quality to the well-known Tozando Iaito.
